If that is the case then, Opportunities for Indian companies will increase multifold, either thru direct outsourcing or indirect sub-outsourcing.

Man this is amazing!! One plant cansolve the fertility (Oasis ) and Peak oil problem...

There is one more interesting alternative to depleting oil deposits in the world. If you have time go through articles on Jatropha, the biodiesel producing plants…Yes it is actually possible!!!!!! The seeds produced by the plant Jatropha curcas can be processed to produce biodiesel, which gives the same efficiency as given by petrol/diesel to run automobiles. Many big companies have already started to test their vehicles using this biodiesel, (5% mixture with petrol).
Good news is it can be used almost 50% to 100% in place of conventional oil…that is no mixture with petrol. Daimler Chrysler has already tested this oil and run a vehicle across the country (from Pune thru Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, etc). Biodiesel has also been tried and tested in a commercial train in India, The shatabdi express.

One more good news is that this plant Jatropha curcas can grow well in arid and semi arid areas (Places with little rainfall) like our Deccan plateau. It has been identified that there is about 130 to 200 million hectares of arid land available in India, where the government plans to grow Jatropha curcas. One hectare of Jatropha plantation yields up to 8 tonnes of oil seeds per year, and 30% of these can be converted to oil. So every hectare of land produces up to 3 tonnes of oil per year. And 200 million hectares would produce 600 million tonnes of oil per year (80 million barrels (7.5 barrels of oil = 1 ton)).
Second good news is planting Jatropha will reverse desertification. That is once arid and dry lands will attract more rainfall and become fertile. Weather will improve. Rainfall will increase.
Next, the other parts of these oil seeds can be used to prepare glycerin (main ingredient in soaps), produce raw materials for many medicines and many many other things.
Now coming to the best part of this biodiesel, it is essentially non polluting like our conventional oil. So pollution levels go down a lot!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn’t it something wonderful?

Other details- Countries in Africa can develop and benefit a lot by this biodiesel plantation, as entire Africa has 1630 million hectares of land available land for Jatropha cultivation.

If you are thinking our scientists are doing nothing but waiting for the doomsday, don’t worry. We are doing all we can to find alternative sources of energy.

Oasis tree ?

Since 70 % of Indian land is barren and belong to scanty rainfall regions, How abt finding a plant which grows in Hot and Scanty Rainfall areas? If such a plant does not exist, do some genetic modification to cactus like plants, so that they can release lot of oxygen while increasing the fertitility of the land preserving the moisture content? To Add further if these plants can accentuate breeding of landworms that increase the fertility (thereby we can avoid InOrgnanic farming)

This will solve most of the problems like Agri production and Job migration to cities.

This SExI (Success through Excellence and Innovation.) model can take our country forward in (unfortunately monsoon dependent) agriculture , the backbone of economy.

It was autumn, and the Red Indians on the remote reservation asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn't tell what the weather was Going to be. Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared. But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked "Is the coming winter going to be cold?"
"It looks like this winter is Going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.
So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Is it going to be a very cold winter?"
"Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "It's definitely going to be a very cold winter."
The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"
"Absolutely," The man replied. "It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever."
"How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked. The weatherman replied, "The Red Indians are collecting wood like crazy."

The winter was normal followed by the summer causing wildfire and turning all sundry wood to ashes.

Question of Quest

Today is one of the so called I-day of the month.

Once in a month, a weekend is fixed for introspective and futuristic thoughts...About Quest, professional happiness (Read: Doing what I am yearning to do all these years...), abt development of India, Reforming political and Economic system etc etc...

All this weekend, thoughts of Quest or Fire have occupied my mind.
Same old, cribs of What I want to do?
What I am doing Now?
Why am I not doing what I want?
What is the comfort zone preventing me for my journey in quest?
Is it cool 1K per day slavery and self decievement ? or
the cushion of Stability and respect in Society ? Or
Is it my Manufacturing Defect "Procrastination”?
Is it my Weak mind filled with Doubt and Self pity?

Why does this Question of Quest Stare me, whenever I am face problems while I work, and When Solutions in coding *DON’T* strike me at the first thought ?
Am I running away from challenges?
If that is the Case, How will I conquer future challenges?

Anyway by adopting this life style, who am I cheating?
To myself? My Adorable and Ever Supporting Wife?
To My Company, which is filling my coffers with out any returns?
Or to my Quest? What the hell, all this **** stuff is about?

Now that I hate (due my lack of Ability or Interest or Passion, or something like that) Normal Software Coders life style, What is my future? How long should I continue with this Guilty trauma??

The Fire is burning deep inside...

Finally, I have decided to take cudgels in my hand and fight some way out of this mess. (I am taking clue from Laks and Pills, Who left comfortable 4.5Lakhs/Annum Jobs and borrowed a 15-20 Lakhs to realize their Quest).

I have to move to Business Development division of some company. I will try to achieve this in my current company and if that isn’t possible, I will join some company as Business Development Project Trainee at least.

Regarding Finance part, I hope my every supporting Wife will help me in this audacious but passionate effort…

Sufficient rainfall...: ...or should we say more than necessary? While the better part of the country has been blessed with adequate rainfall this monsoon, the rain Gods have been more than generous on certain regions (like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka). In a primarily rain-fed agri economy like our's, rainfall signals better prosperity of the rural economy (70% of the Indian economy) and filtering in of the same into the industrial (higher production of consumer durables) and service sectors (banking and insurance).

Free trade policies: The recent Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a bilateral agreement signed between India and Singapore, is a combination of Free Trade Agreement (FTA), a bilateral agreement on investment promotion and protection, an improved double taxation avoidance agreement and a program of cooperation in tourism and other fields. The same augurs well for the Indian economy given that Singapore is India's largest trade partner in the ASEAN. This is because, while it is difficult for these singular developing nations to manifest their economic muscle in bilateral economic negotiations (on platforms like the WTO), a combined effort will lend them better momentum.

Arguments not in favour

Interest rates looking up: With the government's Rs 80 bn borrowing programme on the anvil, the excess liquidity may soon be sucked out. The fresh G-Sec offerings are also expected to be at a premium coupon rate compared to the current benchmark 10-year G-Sec yields. The same may trigger an upside to interest rates thus paving the way for inflationary pressures.
Oil price hike on the anvil: The 40% rise in crude oil prices over the past 6 months has caused the doomsayers at US$ 50 or even US$ 60 (per barrel of crude oil) run for cover. Yet, thanks to subsidies, Indian consumers have been helped to maintain their apparent resilience to this full-blown energy price shock. The standard rule of thumb suggests that every US$ 10 increase in oil prices should knock off about 0.4% from the GDP growth rate during the following four quarters. Couple this with the fact that most of our domestic energy giants are in the red. The ministry's proposal for price hike also seems to be finding few takers. However, it is undeniable that there is limit to which the government can dig into its pockets.

Left is not always right: Most of the government's proposals, be it disinvestments, higher FDI limits or oil price hike, are invariably met with 'stiff opposition from the Left'. The worrying factor is that if every time reforms are put on the backburner due to the Left, nothing may finally turn out to be right!

Relying on the 'strength' of the US economy: Like most other economies, the resilience of the Indian economy to macro-events is also aided by the strength in the US economy. In the US, personal consumption growth continues to track a 5.5% gain in 3QCY05. The Fed also seems to be content with the fact that the contained inflation shows signs of economic 'revival'. Nevertheless, the noteworthy fact is that the stellar accomplishment has been at the cost of personal savings rate hitting rock bottom (0% levels), accelerating debt burden and property bubble. Courtesy surging oil prices, inflationary concerns also are not to be sidelined. While the US' penchant for spending may make sense in normal periods, it is seemingly reckless in the face of an energy shock.

To conclude...It requires no genius to conclude that the disturbing arguments clearly outweigh the comforting ones. However, the 'greed factor' in the market seems to be too tempting to keep the retail investors out of the insane rally.

Internet Kiosks supplementing STD booths

I was reading an article on "10 years of Internet in India" which reflected internet penetration issue in rural India. There are only 25 Million internet users in India that too in urban areas.Following are my thought about addressing "Lack of Internet penetration in Rural India"

Before going further one might ask ,
Why should Rural population use internet ?
What will they do with internet when they don’t have ROTI, Kapda and Makaan and EDUCATION?

25 years ago same questions were asked to Rajiv Gandhi and Sam Pitroda.

If they had spent their time providing satisfying answers to Beaurocrats and Hippocratic pro-poor politicians , Telecom infrastructure would not see the light of the day. By providing public access -– the bright yellow STD PCO boxes are a manifestation of his efforts -- Pitroda.

He revolutionized the state of telecommunications in India and provided a model for other developing nations.

Now the To Be Done (TBD) part:
Due to Mobile and Fixed Telephone revolution, STD booths are loosing steam in generating substantial revenues. If Dyananidhi Maran, Minister I&B is to be believed, soon there will be single tariff plan applicable to allover India. This means that one can make a call anywhere in India to anywhere in India almost at the cost of local call. If this happens, soon STD booths are going to bleed.

Here lies opportunity to scale next level of Telecom ladder.
If internet kiosks can supplement STD booths (Especially in rural areas)
This will create tremendous opportunity to STD booths to make some money again.
However, easier said than done.

Initially it will be very difficult to convince STD booths owners to set up kiosks considering Initial Capital required for computers and Building Space is considerably higher. This can be solved by providing some guarantee income or Traffic by government.

Consider this, if a policy is made that each student should have internet education for about 1 hour per day with government providing the funding for initial 3-4 years for governments schools. Government can also provide some financial aid to rural private schools. These students can be directed to Internet kiosks at STD booths.

This will serve important purposes like;
It will give much needed exposure to rural children there by generating interest in education.
Telecom Infrastructure will improve drastically.
Generation of guaranteed revenues for STD booths.
It will lead to rural empowerment in Information and Tech sector.

Of course some regulatory policy should be in place to prevent access to unwanted sites like porn, violence sites etc.

The Big question is where are people like Sam Pitroda, who can leave everything for couple of years and conquer the “MISSION RURAL INTERNET PENETRATION”

In an interview, he was asked as why he went back to US.

His answer was “I went back to USA after accomplishing my mission in India because my savings had dried up. My children all set to join college and I had no money to finance them. So I decided to pack up. I had done my job anyway”.

A 28-year-old Indian-American was shot dead in a park in Houston by suspected robbers.
Akhil Chopra, a computer professional and an active volunteer for the Hindu Students Council, was found dead by a passerby on a bench inside a park near his office on Thursday afternoon.
Chopra had a gunshot wound on his left temple and a bullet appeared to have grazed his forehead. His wallet was missing and no gun was found at the scene.
Police suspect, Chopra, a devout Hindu who was popular in his community, was meditating in the park when he was killed apparently for the money.
Chopra had come to the US from India in 2001 to study for a master's degree. He had been a very active member of the Indian community. Every Sunday, he was the voice of the news in Hindi for the Sanatan Radio Programme.
His friends said Chopra could have been meditating in the park near his office when the unfortunate incident happened.
"I think after lunch he went there for a moment of quietness," Ramesh Bhutada, president of Star Pipe Products, the company Chopra had worked for since 2002, said.
Police are investigating the killing. Chopra's colleagues are still in a state of shock. After he did not return from lunch on Thursday, his supervisor Girish Naik decided to see if he was at home and left the office to find him.
On the way, he received a call that Chopra's car had been seen at the park.

How did you become involved in the Christian vegetarianism movement?

I started thinking about animals when I started thinking about the daschund who sat on my lap as I read and wrote. I made the step a lot of people make: if my dog had so much value, how could I think other animals had no value? I started reading the Bible again from a perspective of compassion for animals, and I felt like I was reading it for the first time. I discovered a whole world of passages about animals.
The trick is to see the Bible framed in terms of God's love for all of creation and the shared destiny of humans and animals. Animals are a crucial part of God's creation. They're there when animals are shown in heaven in the great visions of the prophets.

In your book, you don't lay down any hard-and-fast rules, but you say we should spiritually evolve to a place where we're not eating a lot of meat.

I would say that vegetarianism is the diet of hope, an eschatological diet. It's not morally obligatory, though it's morally commendable, because it's an impossible diet. No matter what we eat, we're going to take away food from other animals. Even if we turn all of America into cropland we will inflict suffering on animals because you have to keep animals out of the field.
One problem with vegetarianism is that it often gives rise to self-righteousness, a sense of holier-than-thou purity. It can be schismatic, which I think is why the church has seldom embraced it.
It's a diet of witnessing to your hope that, in the end, God will restore the entire world to God's original intentions. That God will redeem humans and animals alike.

Redeem animals from what? Not their own sins?
You have to rethink heaven. It's not just for people who sin--it's for any creature who has suffered, whose life has been incomplete, who's been a victim. Heaven is about the restoration of all things to their original goodness.
I wouldn't want to go around judging everyone who eats meat, but I do think vegetarianism is an act that witnesses to our faith.

Is this about Christians no longer needing to adhere to Mosaic law?
